Creating gardens in Northern California means that not one corner of the landscape can be left untouched, for garden viewing continues year-round in this part of the world.  Barbara’s specialty is woodland gardens and shade gardens that often include the treasured flowing shrub/tree, the camellia.  As past president and one of the board of directors of the American Camellia Society, she has an understanding of these gorgeous plants like few others can.  She has a personal commitment to this special plant, one that has been a bit lost in time, but leaves all who see them spellbound, and is poised for a rebirth in garden design.  As a speaker, Barbara travels nationally and internationally to discuss designing landscapes that feature this beloved plant and its horticulture.

She ascribes to the same garden design philosophy as Therese Gramercy, and starts her planning process from inside your home to understand the views to your garden from each window before designing the garden vignettes of the landscape.  Her designs commonly include the intermingling of woodland landscapes with formal gardens and on occasion the redesign of building facades and outbuildings so they will blend perfectly with your woodland design.
